Every summer I tend to think back over the school year and try to remember what happened.  It seems like it went by in fast forward motion and along with traveling from my life in Indiana to work in the DR and back again, its often hard for me to process everything.  But a few things stand out in my mind as being memorable. Things that remind me of the impact the school is making on children’s lives.  I often ask myself if all the hard work really matters-are we being effective? But in the end, if we are being obedient to God and his directives, effectiveness doesn’t matter. Loving kids does. And loving kids is what God has asked us to do.

So here are some pictures that highlight the school year and remind me of how much an impact 2nd Mile Education is making on the lives of so many children:

This girl is holding a photo of her sponsor family that she had just received.  She was so happy to have it! Sponsors make a HUGE difference in the life of a child.

There were so many kids who took classes in the trade school.  English, computers, electricity and my favorite class, sewing.  It was so fun to watch the girls make clothes, curtains and pot holders-something practical to their lives. And maybe someday they can sell their products for a profit!

This class of preschoolers sang the ABC song in English for me.  I was so proud of them and was reminded of how much every child is learning.

18 students graduating in June of 2015.  17 plan to go to the University.  One student was awarded a scholarship to a coveted university in Punta Cana.  All of them are very excited about their options for the future.

I am excited about the future of 2nd Mile Education Center and how God will use these students to further his kingdom! As Corrie Ten Boom stated so eloquently, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”
