The Dominican Republic is a unique place where tourists and visitors see nothing but beautiful beaches and luxurious resorts, but many locals are struggling to survive because they are trapped in a cycle of physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic poverty.
In 2006, Rod and Nancy visited the Dominican Republic on vacation and were faced with the systemic cycle of poverty prevalent throughout the country. Called by God to act, they established 2nd Mile Missions and partnered with Pastor Pascual Borrell and Church of God for the Nations in Bavaro, Dominican Republic.
The story of 2nd Mile Missions is an inspiring tale of radical faith and God’s immense love for His children. We believe everyone deserves to live a life free from suffering and that we are called to show love to others through taking action the way Rod and Nancy did when they followed the call of God to help.
By coming alongside impoverished communities in the Dominican Republic, 2nd Mile Missions has been able to begin to break the cycle of poverty, replacing it with powerful stories of God’s love and hope.
2nd Mile Missions began by providing educational, nutritional, and spiritual support for children and families trapped within the cycle of poverty. What began by educating 62 children our first year has grown into helping hundreds of children and their families experience hope within their own community.
Rod and Nancy’s passion for meeting the needs of people in the Dominican Republic has continued to grow, turning 2nd Mile Missions into what it is today. Our vision for the future is to create more programs and opportunities to help replace the cycle of poverty with a story of love and opportunity for all.
