Sponsor a Student
Provide Education & Empowerment
When you become a Single Share Sponsor at $45 per month or a Double Share Sponsor at $90 per month, you are investing in a child’s future through education. Your support helps provide a quality, Christ-centered education that creates opportunities, inspires hope, and equips students with the tools they need to build a brighter future. Through your partnership, children gain access to opportunities that can impact their lives for years to come.
Change A Child’s Life
Your generous donation can change a child’s life forever! As a sponsor, you are not only contributing to a child’s future, you are enabling them to grow socially, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Over the years we have had the pleasure of watching many children grow into thriving, successful young adults thanks to the heartfelt commitment of loving sponsors like you.
Make A Monthly Donation
Your tax-deductible contribution of either $45 or $90 a month helps provide:
- Education from preschool through grade 12 in an accredited 2nd Mile Missions school
- Instruction in Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, Math, Computer Literacy, English, Physical Education and Bible
- A safe and supportive learning environment designed to help every student grow and reach their maximum potential
- Caring and committed teaching staff who provide a quality Christ-centered education
How long does the commitment to sponsorship last?
Sponsoring a student is an ongoing commitment where you’re able to help meet the basic educational needs of a child as well as build a relationship and watch them grow until they become independent, graduate, or leave school. Sponsoring a student is like inviting another person into your family.
How are children selected to participate in the sponsorship program?
We evaluate families and their financial situation, but we also choose students whose families demonstrate a commitment to education. Parents are required to attend parenting classes and sign a contract in which they agree to make sure their child attends school on a daily basis. Children that are selected to be part of the sponsorship program are periodically reevaluated to assess their grades, attendance and the family’s ongoing commitment to education.
Does my monthly donation go straight to the student?
Your sponsorship connects you with one specific student, but your monthly donation does not go directly to the student. Instead, all education sponsorship funds are pooled together, and a monthly wire transfer is sent to the school to cover tuition for sponsored students. This approach helps ensure your sponsored student receives the education they need while allowing 2nd Mile Missions to manage sponsorship funds effectively and support our students through a shared commitment to education.
Are other people sponsoring the same student?
Sometimes. Students can be sponsored through either a Single Share Sponsorship ($45/month) or a Double Share Sponsorship ($90/month). Since the full cost of tuition is $90 per month, a student may have two Single Share Sponsors or one Double Share Sponsor covering their education.
Regardless of the sponsorship level, every sponsor plays an important role in helping provide a quality, Christ-centered education and a brighter future for the student they support.
What happens if my sponsored student leaves the school?
Unfortunately, this is a reality for many students in the DR. Families tend to be more transient as they look for work and sustainability. Other issues that contribute, are parents who are unable to be involved in their child’s education or an illness that draws the student back to their extended family. As soon as we become aware of the situation, we do our best to inform the sponsor and assign a new student.
What else can I do for my sponsored student?
In addition to your monthly or yearly sponsorship payments, the three best things you can do for your sponsored student are:
- Pray
- Write a letter. Writing Your Sponsored Student for details on how to write to your sponsored student.
- Visit on one of our twice yearly Awareness Trips. Find more information about the trips here.
I'm a new sponsor, what happens next?
Congratulations on your new sponsorship and thank you for your desire to partner with 2nd Mile Missions! As an Education Sponsor, you play a crucial role in the life of a child in the DR. All sponsors receive a yearly photo of their student and information updates in the Fall. You can also look forward to receiving periodic newsletters aimed at keeping you up to date on what’s happening in the DR. In the meantime, we encourage you to pray for your student on a daily basis and write letters.
