“It is something very special to watch the children’s smiles and to witness their eagerness to learn in a safe environment with an incredible staff at 2nd Mile Education Center. The story we will never forget is that of Lucy, the mother of a nine year old girl. Her voice shook with emotion as she told us that the last year she told her then 8 year old first grade daughter that this would be her last year in school, as the family lacked the money for tuition. As she wept telling us her story, Lucy explained to us that she closed her eyes and raised her face toward heaven. She prayed “my God help me.” She has no recollection of how she heard of 2nd Mile Education Center, only that she was told her children would be welcomed, and that people were willing to help her by paying for her children to attend. Lucy also told us how her daughter cries with joy and excitement when she brings a letter home from school. The letters arrive every couple of months from her sponsor with a card or letter, perhaps a photograph and sometimes a small gift. Karen and I are so grateful for the opportunity to participate in this mission.” - Steve and Karen Foster -
“Sponsoring my two kids in the DR is a blessing. In 2 Corinthians 9:6-15, God provides generously for us so that we may share our wealth with others. In doing so, others can praise God in thankfulness. I am entirely humbled that He trusts me to be His hands and feet. He has provided me with way more than I need so how could I not share what I have. My sponsor kids are able to receive a Christ-centered education in an otherwise very, dark place. It gives them hope in what must seem, at times, to be hopeless. What 2ndMile Missions is doing for these kids is "Huge" and the fact that I get to be a part of it, is something I am very thankful for.” - Julie Reed -
“Our children’s ministry sponsors five children from the Dominican Republic that attend 2nd Mile Education Center. Our first year, we set the goal of sponsoring one child per grade level – Early Childhood, Preschool, lower elementary, middle elementary, and C56 (5th and 6th graders). The goal to raise $420 per age group, or a total of $2100, seemed impossible at the time. But once we showed our kids the picture of the child they were sponsoring and explained what their money could do for them, they were all in! We met and surpassed that goal! Over the year, we received letters, pictures, and small tokens of appreciation from our sponsored children. Several people on the various mission trips got to meet them and take pictures with them. We had our kids write letters to them and we made an effort to pray for our specific child every time we gathered on a Sunday morning. Ask any one of them, and they can tell you the name of the child that they are sponsoring! We have been collecting money again over this past summer to sponsor the same children. Now that there is a relationship between these children from 2nd Mile and our children in Sonlight, we look forward to another year of connecting with them through letters and prayer. “ - Becky Kiphart, Missions Coordinator for Sonlight, the children’s ministry at Warsaw Community Church -
