How sponsorship works

When you sponsor a child you help break the cycle of poverty in that child’s life. Not only does every penny of your monthly sponsorship gift go directly to pay for school but your donation offers a hope and an open door to opportunities that only education can give. You will change a child’s life forever!

Here are some shocking statistics about children and education:

•121 million children around the world, mostly girls, are not able to attend school (www.globalissues.org)

•Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names (www.globalissues.org)

•More was spent on pet food in the United States and Europe than on the global effort to educate children. (17 billion vs. 6 billion)(www.globalissues.org)

•Less than one percent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen
(www.globalissues.org)

  • And only 4% of all U.S. charitable giving goes to international causes of any kind. (www.pgdc.com)

Every child that has a sponsor through 2nd Mile Mission has a chance to grow socially, physically, spiritually and emotionally in a safe, Christian environment. For many children, the only safe place they can find is within the gates of the school property. Many do not have loving, nurturing parents. Most live with only their mother or a grandmother. All the children treasure the letters and pictures they may receive from their sponsor because they know that somewhere in this big world someone loves and cares for them.

How sponsorship saved a child’s life

Santa Ester Feliz is a 10 year old girl that lives in Monte Verde, the Haitian refugee village not far from our school. Her mom is a prostitute and daily “works” in the home leaving Santa to fend for herself. She has learned from her mother that if you need or want something you must submit to a man’s request. Santa wanted desperately to go to school. Her mother refused to pay, so Santa asked a neighbor for help. Of course he was willing to pay for her school if she spent a few nights in his bed. She did. When the neighbor came to register Santa for school the Director was a bit confused. She pulled Santa aside and asked why her neighbor registering her for school and not her mother. Santa explained her story. The Director informed Santa that our school is FREE and she no longer needed to spend any time with this man. Santa is now free to learn, be a child, and know that God loves her and will always provide for her.

Sponsorship will change your life too! You will be blessed in the relationship as you receive letters photos and yearly updates on the progress of your child. You will know that you have made a difference in the life of a child!
Meet Santa Ester Feliz.  She is now in 2nd Grade!
