Frequently asked questions

What do I receive when I sponsor a child?

Every child sponsor receives:

•An introductory packet with a photo of your child and general information. You may also receive a letter or drawing created by your child
•An opportunity to write to your child and receive letters a few times a year.
•Periodic progress reports and updated photos of your child
•A chance to pray for a child who has been given the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty in their life.

If I must discontinue my child sponsorship, what happens to the child I'm helping?

If you need to discontinue your child sponsorship, we will immediately look for a new sponsor for your child and continue the child's sponsorship support without interruption.

May I send gifts to my child?

Because of limited luggage space and high costs of shipping, we ask that you only send letters and small items that fit in a letter sized envelope. Suggested items would be: stickers, pencils, foam shapes, matchbox cars, small hair ties, and photos. The most important thing a child receives is a personal handwritten letter from their sponsor.
Three or four times a year we collect a variety of items from school supplies to clothing. Sponsors are encouraged to donate any items they might be able to purchase or donate. Every child at the school benefits from these collections whether they have a sponsor or not.

How long should my child sponsorship last?

Sponsorship offers you the opportunity to stay with a child until graduation from high school. It also eliminates a huge financial burden of yearly educational costs for the family of the student. Having a sponsor also encourages the child to stay in school and persevere until graduation day arrives.
We recognize that sponsors' circumstances sometimes change. You may discontinue your sponsorship at any time. Please know that a child’s circumstances may change as well. For example, many families move from the area to seek new employment or to be closer to family that lives elsewhere. Unfortunately, the child will not be able to continue in the sponsorship program and a new child will be assigned to the sponsor.

How much does it cost to sponsor a child and how much of my sponsorship money is actually applied to the child’s education?
Sponsorship is only $35 a month and 100% of the money is applied to the education and daily food for the child.
