Current Project
For over a year 2nd Mile Missions and the church in Bavaro have been working together to build a school on the church property. The school will finally open in August 2010 and will provide an education in a Christian environment for over 400 students from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Each child will receive instruction in reading, writing, science, social studies, and math as well as computer and English classes. A hot lunch will also be provided.
Many of the children who will attend this school are very poor and will need financial assistance. In a country where the average income is only $200 a month and a typical school will charge $50-$100 a month for an education, it is almost impossible for families to send their children to school. 2nd Mile Missions wants to break the cycle of poverty by offering a sponsorship program for children in these poor families. For only $35 a month or $420 a year you can give the gift of learning to a child. You will receive the name of your sponsored child along with a photo and periodic updates on academic progress. Sponsorship will provide a full year of school, one hot meal a day, a uniform, books, and school supplies.
